Choosing a name for a new business is never easy. But it’s especially difficult when you’re in the highly regulated financial technology (fintech) industry. Not only do you have to come up with a name that’s creative and memorable, but it also has to be compliant with all the relevant regulations.
After weeks of brainstorming on Fintech company names, we finally came up with a name for our fintech company: FinLabs.
Here’s the inside story of how we arrived at this decision.
It all started with a list of hundreds of potential names…
When we first started brainstorming names for our fintech company, we had a huge list of over 200 possible options. We went through this list and narrowed it down to our top 10 favorite names. From there, we started to do some research on each of these names to see if they were available and compliant with regulations.
Our top 10 list included names like “Future Finance,” “Digital Banks,” and “Innovation Labs.” But when we did a search on the US Patent and Trademark Office’s website, we found that all of these names were already taken. We also found that a lot of common fintech terms like “blockchain” and “cryptocurrency” are trademarked, so we couldn’t use them in our name either.
We considered a lot of different options…
At this point, we had to get creative. We considered all sorts of different options, from made-up words to combinations of existing words. We even looked at non-English words, since we knew that many fintech companies have names that are not easily pronounceable by English speakers.
We did a search on the USPTO website and found that the term “labs” was not trademarked. We also found that there were no fintech companies with the word “labs” in their name. We liked the idea of using the word “labs” because it conveys our company’s focus on innovation and R&D.
We decided on FinLabs…
After weeks of brainstorming and research, we finally arrived at our decision: FinLabs. We liked the sound of the word “labs,” and we thought it was a good fit for our company. Plus, we knew that the domain name www.finlabs.com was available, so we decided to go with it.
We’re happy with our decision, and we think FinLabs is a great name for our fintech company. It’s unique and compliant with regulations, and it conveys our focus on innovation. We hope you like it too!
